OID

'OID is short for Object Identifier. Object identifiers are a hierarchial numbering system that is used by a number of protocols besides SNMP, such as X.509, LDAP, etc. Each OID in a MIB tree refers to an individual node in the tree, possibly with data directly assigned to that node.

Most MIBs supported by SNMP agents are found below the 1.3.6.1 portion of the MIB tree.

You can use snmpget, snmpgetnext, snmpwalk, and snmptable to request data at given OIDs from an agent. You can use snmpset to send configuration data associated with OIDS to an agent.
