Boris Stock Award Recipients

The Boris Stock Award is an informal award that recognizes an important contribution or bug report from the FDS and Smokeview user community. It is a way for us to say "thanks" to our users for taking the time to critically evaluate the code and their results.

Boris is an engineer at BFT Cognos GmbH. He is renowned for doing his homework and simplifying the input files he submits to the Issues website. When a bug report comes in from Boris it gets our attention. We have confidence that he has taken the time to check his inputs and provide only the essential aspects of the problem.

In 2010, Boris submitted such a bug report #996, then to the Google Code Issue Tracker. This bug showed conclusively, and in a very simple demonstration, that FDS had a problem with conservation of thermal energy in a compartment fire scenario with OPEN vents as convective flow boundaries. The solution to this problem became the basis for the Energy_Budget verification test series. For this contribution (by no means his last), we give the inaugural award in his name.
