unfortunately vmware is a binary package so it depends heavily on the library versions installed on the system. On my amd64 stable system (still with profile default/linux/amd64/17.0) I don't have problems. I have installed vmware-player with -bundled-libs useflag. You could find more information looking in the logfiles created under /tmp/vmware- |
Here is my emerge --info:
As you can see I'm profile Here's the latest vmware log in /tmp/vmware-*:

So what is this media-libs library that I don't have? |
for the tiff:3 issue, it should be safely ignored as indicated in #46 (probably it might be removed from the deps) As I cannot replicate the issue I cannot really help furthermore, did you migrate to the 17.1 profile or installed directly with it enabled? |
I installed vmware player successfully, and now when I run vmplayer in my terminal, nothing happens. I get zero output, vmware-player does not run, and I have no indication of what is happening.
