Using OboeTester to Test Four Channel Output

Main OboeTester Docs

In the Android 13 Compatibility Definition, there is a new requirement for T in section 2.2.7.1 Media:

  • [5.6/H-1-4] MUST support >=4 channel USB audio devices (This is used by DJ controllers for previewing songs.)

Here are instructions for testing with the Vantec Audio Adapter, which is inexpensive and available from multiple vendors.

  1. Install OboeTester from the Play Store
  2. Launch OboeTester
  3. Connect the Vantec device to the phone using a USB B-A cable with an OTG adapter.
  4. Press TEST OUTPUT
  5. Select Channels: 4
  6. Press OPEN then START
  7. Plug 3.5mm headphones into the Speakers: Front plug.
  8. You should hear a sine wave on each ear.
  9. Move 3.5mm headphones to the "Speakers: Center/Bass" plug.
  10. You should hear higher frequency sine waves on each ear.

You can enable or disable individual channels using the checkboxes.

If you repeat the test with "Channels: 6" then you will also hear sine waves on the "Speakers: Surround" plug.
