- Figure out what you want to talk about
We recommend that you talk about something interesting that you have worked on with your project, but you can talk about anything related to the tech industry. - Prepare your talk
Make sure that your talk is less than 5-10 minutes long. Ideally, your presentation is about 5 minutes long and you are open for a 5 minute Q&A. However, the Q&A is optional. Don't worry about it being perfect! Lightning talks are a great way to improve your presentation skills. - Sign up on the Google Form
The Google Form is at https://tables.area120.google.com/u/0/form/9BhhwXrxe3Bd-8BwlVS_1T/t/9o6IzEHref53LOa1KjAknZbGp_kVH46mB7YedBCOO_VRbLiSnJqnUixcBUclamDORi. You will be allowed to share your screen, but please make sure that you are ready to present when it is your turn. Having your talk recorded is recommended but optional. If you prefer to not be recorded, don't worry! Just make sure to not check that box in the signup. If anything changes, feel free to contact a lead and we will adjust accordingly. - Show up and Present :)
We will confirm your availability the Monday before your presentation. Please make sure to respond to us by Wednesday. We will give you a heads up before it is your turn to go. If you are the first person presenting that day, we will let you know by Wednesday. If you are only available to talk during a specific time of our meeting, please make sure to let a lead know ahead of time.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to an Engineering CoP leader on Slack!
- Run through your talk and time yourself. It is very easy to misjudge how long you are talking for.
- Be sure to speak clearly - it's also easy to subconsciously speed up while presenting.
- Make sure your webcam and mic are working before joining the Zoom call.
- Above all, have fun - you should be talking about something interesting to you!
