Password requirements

Ando "David" Roots edited this page Dec 26, 2018 · 1 revision

When you sign up, you need to provide a secure password for your account. This is to protect both you and the site from account takeovers.

We require passwords of at least 8 symbols long. Additionally, we check the password against previously leaked passwords and deny those that have leaked.

What is a leaked password?

Sites like LinkedIn and Yahoo have had data breaches - malicious hackers getting access to user details. Some of those data breaches have disclosed passwords that users have used. Many people reuse the same password across sites and services. Also, many people use insecure passwords such as "monkey".

This allows attackers to easily guess your password, if you use a leaked or common password. Take a look - is your password among the 10 000 most common passwords?

How to use a secure password

Use a password manager like LastPass or 1Password. Let it generate and save totally unique and gibberish passwords for your sites like ZMRPNKYGL4VMndD0bbDvAg0rSYwP9i6N0dC. You don't have to remember them - and the passwords are unique and very secure.
