1. The ready-to-use VirtualBox image of Arch Linux could be downlaoded from here (the latest image version was 201507 at the time of writing this note):

2. After starting the VM with VirtualBox and loginging in using the username and password provided on the web page of step 1:

2.1 perform a full update: start a terminal, then:
sudo pacman -Syyu
(you will be asked to enter the root password)
