Introduction

Your phone’s Android operating system, settings, and apps are stored in its internal memory (ROM). Nandroid is a tool for backing up and restoring ROM.

Software such as IHO's variants is also called a “ROM” because it’s essentially a ROM snapshot.

Always perform a Nandroid backup before loading a new ROM in case something goes wrong.

Prerequisites

  • Your phone must be rooted.
  • You must have a supported recovery console installed.

If you don't know what these terms mean, see The Total Newbie's Dictionary.

Performing a Nandroid Backup

1) Access your recovery console:

  • On IHO-based ROMs, hold Power and choose Reboot → Recovery from the pop-up menu.
  • You can also hold Power, Volume Down, and Home while your phone is turned off.
  • Open ROM Manager and tap Reboot into Recovery if you have ClockworkMod Recovery installed.

2) Use the volume buttons to scroll up/down; press the camera button to select.

Go to Backup and Restore → Backup.

Your backup will be saved to the ClockworkMod/Backup folder on your SD Card. Remember to delete old backups; their space can add up fast.

Restoring a Nandroid Backup

1) Access your recovery console using one of the methods listed above.

2) Go to Backup and Restore → Restore.

3) Choose a backup to restore.
