What is the back branch policy?

I cannot find the information on how long will v4 (and maybe v3) be supported?

For example, if there's a security issue tomorrow, how far will it be back patched?

Goes to how important is it for customers to spend time on upgrading.

There's never been a published policy, but in practice:

v3 - obsolete / no updates
v4 - security updates only, and that will probably end sometime this year
