Hi,

I've forked and tweaked your scripts to support automatic archiving to Amazon S3.
See: https://github.com/cattlea/surrogate

If you like, you can use my implementation in this project or I can create a pull request. Just let me know.

It does need some work though. If a user does not want to use S3, it still tries to connect to S3 since it's fairly hard coded now.
