I love DSP and I am Trying to wrap my head around ddsp.

This has been my recen obsession but guys, can someone explain differential DSP to me in easy terms? My understanding is that it implements differentiable versions of digital signal processing methods in an autoencoder network. I dont clearly understand what this means though,

I know that an auto encoder tries to decode the input from a small latent space, but I'm unable wrap my head around how I'd implenent let's say a biquad filter as a differtiable operation in an auto encoder and specially have no idea about what the network would train on.
I think if I get an idea about what I'd train for example biquad filter to be able to generate a filtered sound I'll get a better idea.
