Non harmonic overtones

Just to regurgitate what I found here:

If you turn off the lowest drawbars then playing an octave or two octaves lower you can reproduce overtones with the harmonics that some might find more dissonant.
So I think tonight I might write some kind of modes to switch over to where with one button press the octave and available drawbars change. You would certainly want a way to indicate what is happening or things would get confusing.

I tried this lowering the keyboard octave and using the higher drawbars in a mix and it did indeed have a very nice timbre.

On a hammond organ there is a whole "presets" area with black keys and white keys inverted at the left side. I have no idea what kind of presets they are or if they are just switching between all the sets of drawbars that are given. It seems my idea of building out the organ project for a while and making a study of what hammonds are good at and how to use them is unlocking new information each time I make the time to look.

The pipe lengths also relate to orchestral elements like different types of horn sections in an orchestra. That was part of the idea of an organ - a symphonic effect out of a single instrument. I'm a guitarist but this move to synths and learning to play - well it's very rewarding. There is a lot of technology emulating instruments and its only going to open up as people write more open source code and explain things. One prominent keyboardist from a band called "Dream Theatre" among others used an ipad when he played hammond sounds for Deep Purple. Sounds like blasphemy but - designing sounds is all about understanding the natural world.

So I invite any organ players to share ideas.
I've also got ideas to document the various drawbar pulls used by famous players -
for example Jimmy Smith is said to be just full mode for the first 3 or 4 drawbars. So that's obviously a couple of presets. A patch manager is my next area when I finally finish up this physical build.
