SpeedFan configuration guide

Marco Vockner edited this page Jul 19, 2017 · 10 revisions

To get the temperatures from your system, you have to configure the rainmeter skin to get the correct sensors/data from SpeedFan.

The only requirement here is that you have SpeedFan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php) installed and running in the background.

1.   Open SpeedFan and go to the settings

You can open SpeedFan by right-clicking on the tray icon and then on Restore.

The main window of SpeedFan should appear and in there you need to open the settings by clicking on Configure at the right-side.

2.   Get the index number for your devices

A window like the one below should appear with your devices and temperatures shown.

SpeedFan assigns an index number to every temperature sensor on your system and you need to set the correct number in Rainmeter to propertly set it up. The tricky part here is that the number doesnt start at 1 like normally, but at 0.

Example

The processor (CPU) is the second item from the top, so the index number is 1.

The graphics card (GPU) is the 11th item from the top, so the index number would be 10.

After you got your index number for the CPU and GPU, we can go to the next step.

3.   Change the index number in Rainmeter

Now go back to your desktop and open the settings skin by right-clicking on the SysDash skin and then pressing on Open Settings.

Example of opening settings skin

A settings skin should appear on the desktop and in there click on System temperatures on the left and a new window should appear.

Click on the dark-grey field next to the index number you wanna change and a text field should pop up. Enter your index number you got from the step before and then press Enter to confirm it.

Settings skin input fields

After you pressed Enter, it should automatically update and the new temperatures should be shown on the skin.

4.   You're done! Congratulations!

After you're done, you could also change the temperature unit to Fahrenheit or configure SpeedFan to auto-start on Startup.

For that, i would recommend watching this tutorial by Ectropy Arts which i've used myself!
