Custom Folder Custom iconPath problem

Hi I'm not able to load custom icons in a specific folder inside my root folder project

My goal is have it in my root project in a way that contributors when pull could also load the custom icons

Any suggestions for me?

I'm able to load custom icons when I insert the .SVG icons inside
/Users/renanmalato/.vscode/extensions/pkief.material-icon-theme-5.4.2/icons
and call it inside settings.json like this

  "material-icon-theme.folders.associations": {
    "profile": "profile",
    "products": "products",
    "orders": "orders",
    "skeletons": "skeletons",

but I'm not able to set specific path like to my main project....

I can see the .vscode inside my project but it is an empty folder, it is not the folder that contains the material icons file

Would love to hear any suggestions

Yes, this is a known restriction, you can read more about it in the README.

see ./README.md#custom-svg-icons

It's possible to add custom icons by adding a path to an SVG file which is located relative to the extension's dist folder. However, the restriction applies that the directory in which the custom icons are located must be within the extensions directory of the .vscode folder in the user directory.

For example a custom SVG file called sample.svg can be placed in an icons folder inside of VS > Code's extensions folder:

.vscode
 ┗ extensions
   ┗ icons
     ┗ sample.svg

In the settings.json (User Settings only!) the icon can be associated to a file name or file extension like this:

"material-icon-theme.files.associations": {
    "fileName.ts": "../../icons/sample"
}

Note: The custom file name must be configured in the settings without the file ending .svg as > shown in the example above.

I actually read the doc, i'm just not sure about the custom file icon path

my goal is to point the path to my main project folder . so when contributors pull it will be available for them as well

I have my {user}/.vscode/extensions/pkief.../icons -

and I have {myproject}/.vscode/extensions/ which is a clean folder

......

If I drop folder icons inside the main extension icons folder, it works fine

What I would like to do is be able to set a custom Path for the icons

so I could set like

Yeah, what you're trying to do is not possible, as far as I know. The icon files need to be inside the {user}/.vscode folder, and cannot be in some/project/.vscode.

But I had a situation similar to yours, where I needed to have some custom icons available for my team. I ended up creating a fork and uploading it to the marketplace. I keep the fork updated with latest changes in material-icon-theme. My team uses my fork and if we need a custom icon that is too specific to our products, I create and add it to my fork as a default icon. E.g. this one:

But when we need a custom icon that might be useful for the entire community, I create a PR here and help maintaining and improving the extension.
