UI hard to read on Ubuntu 20.04LTS / xfce #80

Here's what I get on Ubuntu 20.04LTS / xfce:

Notes:

The menu items are much too close together; I couldn't select them easily.
The font weight is too light, and really hard to see
The text boxes are not lined up horizontally (look at the baselines -- in a given line, the bases should be pixel-perfect aligned, but they wander up and down across the page).
The menus are hard to read, not enough context
