<h2>Objectives</h2>
<p>
The following is a list of practicum objectives set out before the beginning of my on-site hours, which started on August 16th, 2019.
<ol>
<li> To become familiar with the facilities, services, relevant committees, and management of the school library media center at Stow-Munroe Falls High School</li>
<li>To become familiar with the services the school library media specialist provides, such as assisting students and other library users with the use of technology, answering reference questions, and helping students use print, non-print, and online library resources</li>
<li>To become familiar with the school library media center’s collection and its cataloging practices and procedures</li>
<li>To observe instruction sessions, including information literacy instruction and library use instruction</li>
<li>To collaborate with the practicum advisor and other school personnel to help plan instruction sessions that are helpful and relevant to student needs</li>
<li>To collaborate with teachers at all steps to successfully complete a project that will benefit the school and provide experience working with other educators</li>
<li>To successfully conduct an in-service training for educators at Stow-Munroe Falls High School and receive constructive feedback which will help me with future in-service programs</li>
<li>To complete the required project to identify assistive technology; evaluating the school’s accessibility to students with special needs by applying the principles of universal design</li>
<li>To learn about professional development opportunities and how to pursue continuing education</li>

<td><h3>1. Worklog</h3></td>
<td>"During the practicum, students need to keep a detailed worklog describing how the spend their time. The worklog should provide documentation of dates, times, and activities completed during the practicum. The worklog should consist of reactions, thoughts, and ideas about the experience, and can be anecdotal. Worklog entries can be short, but they should be written on a regular basis over the course of the practicum."</td>
<td>This is the same Worklog that appears in the main <a href="portfolio_projects.html#practicum">Portfolio Projects</a> tab.</td>

<tr>
<td><h3>2. Collaborative Project</h3></td>
<td>"Practicum students are required to participate in a collaborative project with one or more teachers during the practicum. The student should be actively involved in the development, implementation, and evaluation of this project. Evidence of implementing the collaborative project must be provided in the student’s electronic portfolio. The academic practicum advisor (Dr. Harper) will follow up with the onsite practicum supervisor for feedback."</td>
<td>This project, planned and completed alongside the school librarian who is also a 9th grade Career-Based Intervention class teacher, aligns with ODE-ELA and modern AASL standards. The project consisted of a collaborative instruction unit centering on the use of paired-texts. Students were assigned side-by-side graphic adaptations and traditional texts to determine whether the graphic texts assisted their reading comprehension. An informal experiment was then conducted analyzing test data to determine whether there was a noticeable improvement in performance on multiple-choice and extended response reading comprehension questions. </td>

<td><h3>3. In-service: Media Literacy Issues and Instruction</h3></td>
<td>"Practicum students are required to conduct some type of teacher training, workshop, or in-service session during the practicum. This can be a session held before or after normal school hours, as part of an in-service day, or via an online module. It is requested that participants in the training/workshop/in-service session fill out a student-designed feedback evaluation rubric with an option for anonymous completion. This evaluation will be included as evidence in the e-portfolio."</td>
<td>This in-service used the same PowerPoint as the ILI session, but the presentation and survey were modified for practitioners, specifically the Fulbright Scholars visiting SMFHS, hosted through KSU. Media literacy was a required component of their program, and I was asked to adapt and conduct my news literacy session for them by the librarian, who was KSU's liaison within SMFHS. I received 3/5 anonymous responses to my feedback survey, the feedback for which was positive.</td>

<tr>
<td><h3>4. Accessibility Evaluation</h3></td>
<td>"Practicum Students need to create, implement, and evaluate a project that involves identifying appropriate assistive technology. C. Complete an evaluation of the school library and its accessibility to students with special needs using a universal design checklist. (See Dr. Harper for further information.)"</td>
<td>A Universal Design for Libraries checklist was completed which was provided to me by the academic advisor. I evaluated the school in which I was placed to have met all of the requirements of the checklist, at least in part. I have no additional recommendations for the school, as its library media center is a flexible, mostly open and accessible space that seems to meet the needs of its users.</td>

</tr>
<tr>
<td><h3>5. Collaborative Project Data Analysis</h3></td>
<td>"Practicum students need to conduct data analysis in their collaboration project with a teacher. Specifically, test data should be analyzed as part of the process of identifying curriculum areas that could benefit from modification or redesign."</td>
<td>This requirement was addressed in the collaborative unit detailed above.</td>

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><h3>6. Behavioral Management</h3></td>
<td>"Practicum students must include evidence of implementing behavioral management strategies during their collaborative projects and instruction in their electronic portfolio."</td>
<td>A write-up was completed as a form of self-evaluation to reflect upon instruction sessions I conducted. Resulting from this self-analysis, I drafted a checklist of class management strategies as a form of "cheat sheet" to draw upon in future instruction.</td>

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><h3>7. Practicum Summary</h3></td>
<td>"At the conclusion of the practicum, students will submit in their practicum summary an evaluation of the practicum site. The summary should address how successfully the proposed goals and objectives were met, how interesting and challenging the job activities turned out to be, what the organization was like, what was learned through the experience, and other thoughts and reactions as deemed important by the student. The Practicum Experience Summary will also include a written critique of the student/teacher collaborative project"</td>
