ATLAS (Automatic Tumour and Liver Automatic Segmentation) is one of the newly released datasets in this year's MICCAI 2023 Challenge. As the full name suggests, it is a segmentation dataset for the liver and tumors, somewhat similar to the previously introduced LiTS dataset. The difference is that the ATLAS dataset provides a dataset of 90 cases in the CE-MRI (Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging) modality, rather than the CT modality data of LiTS. This modal difference is due to the collection of the ATLAS dataset being related to the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma with transarterial radioembolisation (TARE), and TARE treatment requires the preoperative capture of CE-MRI images for radiometric estimation; while traditional surgical methods related to liver surgery mainly use CT images, as long as the tumor location can be clearly determined. In summary, the unique CE-MRI modality enriches the modality of abdominal segmentation benchmarks, which is commendable.
