image
looks like this, also lots of flickering with checkerboard patterns and other weirdness.

OpenGL Classic is fine

what video settings are you using for melonDS?
does it go away if you set the internal resolution lower?
if so I'd imagine it's the same as what's going on in #2047

I'm normally using 3x and I'm pretty sure I tried 1x resolution and it was there. The entire screen was unusable, and looks like a different effect to that issue visually.

Do you have a savestate from where this issue happens? I can't seem to reproduce this on low resolutions.

Probably a duplicate of #2047

Thanks for the reminder to test it - this is it shown on 1x native resolution with other video settings also included in image. This is on the main menu before loading any saves

Computer (Laptop):
Ryzen 5 5500U
GTX 1650

I don't think this is a duplicate

2673.-.Dragon.Quest.IV.-.Chapters.of.the.Chosen.U.GUARDiAN.nds.mp4

I cant reproduce this issue on RC 1.0.
Windows 11. i9-11900kf, RTX3080
Dragon Quest IV - Chapters of the Chosen (U)

Maybe you have a bad rom dump?

Is a bad ROM likely to be the issue if it works fine with OpenGL classic? I've played through most of the game so far without issues on that renderer

Oh yeah that seems unlikely now that you mention it working on the other renderer again.
Anyway I would recommend playing this game on DeSmuME. MelonDS can't upscale the game because MelonDS can't upscale DisplayCapture, unlike DeSmuME, making 3D models but also the sprites look much nicer.
