Here is an overview of hidden and public extensions in Microsoft Edge.

1)Public Extensions: Available for public on the Edge Add-Ons Store.

2)Hidden Extensions: Hidden from the Store and accessible only to people who already have the URL.

Hidden Extensions can be used for internal testing or if you want to test a new version of your extension or when you simply want to hide your extension from general public until you are ready to publish it.

However, if you are hiding an already published extension to update it, the existing users will still get an update and it will not change the URL, since the URL is linked to your store ID, which cannot be changed in either state (hidden or public).
