Difference between hidden extensions and public extensions in Microsoft Edge #64
-
I am a developer and would like to know the difference between hidden and public extensions in Microsoft Edge. I would like to internally publish an extension for my team to test it and later make it available for public use. Also, what would happen if we change the availability of our currently public extension to hidden to update it? How will it affect the URL and the existing users of the same? |

Here is an overview of hidden and public extensions in Microsoft Edge. 1)Public Extensions: Available for public on the Edge Add-Ons Store. 2)Hidden Extensions: Hidden from the Store and accessible only to people who already have the URL. Hidden Extensions can be used for internal testing or if you want to test a new version of your extension or when you simply want to hide your extension from general public until you are ready to publish it. However, if you are hiding an already published extension to update it, the existing users will still get an update and it will not change the URL, since the URL is linked to your store ID, which cannot be changed in either state (hidden or public). |
