First time install - doesn't work

I may be doing this wrong but I followed the barely unexisting install instructions.

I downloaded it, dragged it to the apps folder, exec it and saw the welcoming window notifying of some plugins being already installed.

Spotlight is working sucky as usual, even though the Flashlight icon is up there in the top bar.

Even trying to launch a command through the dropdown doesn't do anything.

Nothing seems to be appearing in mac's Console.

I'm running Yosemite 10.10.5

Thanks for trying to help, but... after looking all those steps and comments, I don't want to go that path.

I don't like to do hacks willy nilly without researching them, and I can't invest the needed amount of time to research those for the perks that flashlight offers. Not to mention the odds of it not working anyways.

Why is it not working properly? i.e. is this issue on the pipeline to patch Flashlight?
