On the long run we will upgrade the software package to java8 and tomcat8. When will be the right point in time to make this standard? Now?
This does not mean that java7 and tomcat7 are no more supported. You can simply replace java and tomcat folder (and potentially you also need to tweak an eclipse setting configuring tomcat7/8).
