High level planning

This page outlines what the short and longer term goals for OBI activities are.

Projects in progress:

  • Assay reorganization/templating paper. Status: 1/7/19; Jie sent first draft to Randi
  • Biocuration OBI presentation / poster. Status: Abstract submitted (2019)
  • Value specification presentation paper (ICBO)

Standardizing ontology content development

Our goal is to step by step target main domains in OBI and provide ‘templates’ capturing standard design patterns for all terms in that domain. This consists of the following steps:

  • pull out all terms in a specific domain from the existing ontology
  • transfer the logical definitions into a spreadsheet
  • Pull out all term requests / issues from tracker
  • harmonize definitions to ensure we have one consistent design pattern
  • test if resulting ontology satisfies competency questions / use cases
  • Publish a paper / documentation to ensure people understand what we are doing (and we remember it)

Next areas to tackle:

  • devices
  • material processing
  • specimens (sample / specimen / representative)
  • value specifications

Showcase whole investigation representation

OBI has components to represent all parts of an investigation, from planning to executing a study design, gathering data and drawing conclusions. We want to show how implementing that across several resources provides an integration mechanism that enables gathering new Provide applications of representing whole investigations in OBI, .

  • IEDB
  • EuPathDB
  • ImmPort / ImmuneSpace

Outreach

  • Plan for expanding to new scientific domains to ensure that OBI is more even in its coverage
  • Documenting usage of OBI
  • Contribute to OBO foundry core
