I’m currently using SmokePing for network monitoring, and I’ve encountered two significant challenges that I need help resolving. I have 104 targets configured, but I’m struggling with effectively visualizing and identifying problematic nodes due to the limitations in both the sorter panels under the Chart section and the panels in the general overview.
If I understand correctly, the sorter panels aggregate data from all targets to present an overall view of the network. However, since these panels do not display the names of the specific targets that have issues, it is hard to identify which targets are experiencing problems unless I click on one of the panels. For example, if I click on the packet loss panel, it directs me to just one problematic target, typically the worst one. However, if there are multiple targets with significant issues, such as several targets with 100% packet loss, I will not know about them unless I manually search for them. Other problematic targets, such as those with 95% packet loss, also remain hidden unless I manually find them, which can obscure significant network issues.
The second issue occurs in the general overview where all targets are displayed. Even when I configure the graphical panels to be 400x50, and despite using a high-resolution monitor, not all the targets fit on the screen. Furthermore, the overview panels show lines indicating acceptable latency ranges (e.g., 4 ms), but they do not reflect packet loss issues. I have to click into each target individually to see the detailed panel, where I often discover that a target is actually experiencing severe packet loss. This forces me to drill down into each target manually, which is time-consuming and not practical given the number of targets I’m monitoring.
I would like to improve visibility in both the sorter panels and the general overview. For the sorter panels, is there a way to display the names of all targets affected per category (such as packet loss) instead of just focusing on one target per level of packet loss? For the general overview, is there a way to configure SmokePing to sort or prioritize targets by packet loss, high latency, or other criteria? This would help ensure that targets with severe issues are presented at the top without requiring me to click on each target individually.
I would appreciate any guidance on whether these features are possible within the current configuration or if there are any workarounds.
