We are developing a system that scans vehicles using LiDAR and uses an Axis Q1700-LE camera for ALPR. The vehicle images used for ALPR are of the front of the vehicle and need to be captured 2-5s before they get scanned by the LiDAR. We use an edge device for managing/processing LiDAR data and want to use the scanned vehicle to trigger a 'pre-event' and access 1 to 3 snapshots from the video buffer for ALPR to match the scanned vehicle with its front license plate. Any help would be appreciated.

There are multiple ways to do this:

1) Using Axis device action and rules:

You can use VAPIX APIs to activate the I/O and configure the rules in the camera and use HTTPS endpoint to receive images:

2) Create an ACAP to generate the event after receiving the trigger/metadata from the LiDAR system.

In my understanding, as this application is a real-time application, you may consider using the ACAP SDK on edge. You can consider buffering the video before getting the LiDAR event.
