Clarification Regarding Points Deduction in GSSoC - Priyanshi Bhargava #1085
-
Hi @Priyanshi0112, We received your email regarding your disappointment and request for clarification about the unexpected and significant points deduction affecting your final rank in the GSSoC Extended (GSSoC Extd) program. To address this, let’s begin with a summary of your open-source contribution stats. You have created a total of 159 pull requests throughout the program. Of these, 78 were made in October and 95 in November, many of which were submitted within just a few days. This volume of PRs, especially in such a short timeframe, appears unusual and suggests spam, with most changes being minor and not demonstrating quality contributions + Such High amount The total number of PRs you've made in the so lets start with some PRs and clarify you about everything Here is one PR where you claimed to correct a duplicate footer, but all you did was remove one blank space and comment out the footer tag. This should not have been assigned any level, yet it received In this PR you Correct image alignment which should be now lets move ahead with other PR here you are claiming again to remove the duplicate fotter in previulsy you said corrected and it only has one line change and it should have no levels but got see you only added a comment and you call this as open source contribution?? In this PR you added gredient to footer with on 2 line adjustments This is not open source, lets move forward with another PR this should have again similar PR this should have Here are snapshots of your PRs and contributions. Ask yourself: is this truly in the spirit of open source? Is it fair to everyone involved? There are contributors making highly complex PRs who are awarded There are plenty of examples, and I haven’t even mentioned the PRs in other repositories. Realistically, you shouldn’t even rank in the top 30, but we added points and didn’t ban you. Normally, we ban accounts for such cases immediately, but we respect your efforts, though not spam or unfair contributions. Open source is about meaningful contributions. We only deducted points from contributions marked as spam, which is why you remain in the top 30. This was done because unfair labeling and excessive issues go against our guidelines, and several contributors raised concerns about your contributions. This could affect your reputation both in GSSoC and on social platforms, which may impact you in the future. Such contributions won’t benefit you since, when job recruiters view your profile, they might see these contributions as unfair, potentially leaving a negative impression. To preserve your integrity and ensure fairness in the program, we deducted your points. If you still have questions, I can explain further, reviewing each contribution individually and clarifying why points were deducted. Please also consider other contributors who are putting in genuine efforts. Take a look at their contributions to understand what we expect. Thank you, and I hope this clarifies your concerns. |

https://github.com/GSSoC24/Contributor/tree/main/gssoc-guidelines This is the gssoc guidelines for reference these are the issue which happened, and if you watch the last day live comments, there were numerous comments about your contribution. We know there are people who do spams, we didn't take action on most of the leaderboard >50 because they anyway not impacting leaderboard and are beginners. Your case is different. So its me suggested rather banning reduce the points according to the guideline, if you have concerns I will share the discussion with other contributors for general poll. @Priyanshi0112. You are awesome developer indeed no doubts, our concerns was on the level3 assignment on simple issue, this could be issue from the PA as well. PA ain't responding to our comments so this is the only way . |
