Installing myst-parser for a blogpost without conda install is this an issue?

I read the installation guide as it recommends conda install.

I am used to using pyenv and venv to create virtual env.

SO i went down that route. my OS is macOS 11 Big Sur on intel chip.

I brew update and upgrade pyenv.

My commands are:

pyenv --version
>> v2.2.0 is absolute latest
brew update && brew upgrade pyenv

pyenv install --list
pyenv install 3.9.7
mkdir ~/.venv
$(pyenv root)/versions/3.9.7/bin/python3.9 -m venv ~/.venv/myst-py397

brew install anaconda
>> may require password

source ~/.venv/myst-py397/bin/activate

# the conda install seems to hang
pip install myst-parser

is this an issue that i am not using conda install?
