Does poetry clone git metadata?

When specifying a git dependency in my pyproject.toml like such

my-package = { git = "ssh://git@github.com/my/repo.git", tag = "v1.0.32"}

Is it expected that poetry will git clone the git metadata? I'm seeing that happen when I peak into my .venv managed by poetry. Specifically, in .venv/src I see the .git dir

I'm using an older version, 1.4.2.
