Java API iterable CruxDocument

Heya,

We're enjoying the newly improved Java API. Right now we have been depending on the iterability of the IPersistenceMap in order to use Jackson to convert database documents to backend models. The new API specifies that the raw map is not intended for public use (CruxDocument::toMap).

We would like to make a feature request which allows us to iterate over the data fields of a CruxDocument. An even more grandiose feature request would be to allow us to directly map a CruxDocument to a custom defined data class, though this is something that we could implement ourselves easily if those fields become iterable.

How doable would it be to implement such a feature?

Hi Jordi, thanks for posting! I don't have any firm answers for you right now, but I'll make sure we circle back to this in a few days.

I can however point to #1494 which I think covers the exact same territory. It's useful to hear the feedback that people want/need this though (I can also see there are 5 upvotes on your post :)

I believe #1494 came up whilst work on https://github.com/AlistairONeill/crux-kotlin-dsl/ was happening.

Hi @JordiVanOs - my update is that resolving #1494 should be possible, but it's not something we can commit to addressing soon. However, if this is particularly high-impact/blocking, please feel free to email us with more context at hello@xtdb.com and we can always reassess priorities. I'll make sure we update this thread as/when the issue the progresses.
