lieber is translated as to prefer but that's incorrect because it's an adjective/adverb and not a verb. (To prefer would be bevorzugen or vorziehen.)
I think it should be translated as preferable/rather or so.
The entry also says lieber + verb but I think that should be verb + lieber (e.g. Ich gehe lieber..., Sie fährt lieber...). I can't think of an example where lieber would be put before the verb.
