I want to share with your the initial project , with was made with some students of undergraduate course industrial robotics.
The project consisted that the students builds his robot (one group use wood, other metal, and other acrylic) , generate the urdf model, and then though and Arduino connect to the robotics toolbox like a backend which made the inheritance of swift library.
It works, but there exists some things to arrange in the protocol and many ideas because the robots also communicate with Bluetooth with a generic app.
Really interesting because the student learns a lot about python(just had some experiences in java and Arduino) and the use of github (additional to robotics off course).
