Overview of Far Horizons

Far Horizons is a play-by-email game with origins as a play-by-mail (postal) game in the 1990s.

As of April 30, 2021, I am GMing a test game with 12 players and 6 NPC positions. I have forked this repository from @Ramblurr as he is no longer actively updating the source code. I will be documenting issues and submitting updates as I progress.

The basic history of the Far Horizons source code is as follows:

• 1999: Rick Morneau, creator of Far Horizons, releases the source code to his game on May 23, 1999 (Source: rec.games.pbm posting). The original site that Rick hosted the code on is now offline, but it was moved to http://www.rickmor.x10.mx
• 2009: @Ramblurr begins to modernize and update the code on a GitHub project. (Source: GitHub / Ramblurr / Far-Horizons)
• 2011: @Ramblurr announces the Galaxy Alpha game of the updated Far Horizons code. At some point during 2011, the game ceases operation. (Source: PlayByMail.net Forums posting)
• 2021: I downloaded a copy of @Ramblurr's updated Far Horizons source code and started a new test game with 12 players and 6 NPC positions (in case additional players wish to join later). This initial test game began on April 30, 2021. The purpose of this test is to identify and document any source code bugs. Any bugs will be fixed for future GMs who find this forked source code repository.
