apt-offline refuses to install mentioning Checksum error

Hi,
I have fresh install of ubuntu 20.04 and is trying to update apt database using apt-offline. I ran apt-offline set update.sig --update in my offline machine and ran apt-offline get update.sig --bundle update.zip in the online machine. On transferring the zip file to the offline machine and running apt-offline get update.sig --bundle update.zip it appears as the task ran succesfully and database has been updated, but nothing has been updated. On running install with --verbose on install, it indicated several checksum doesn't match errors. I re-downloaded the files multiple times, but keep getting same result. I have attached all the related files below. I have a feeling this could be related to #128 , but I don't have the knowledge to debug this. Is there a know way to get around this?

can you elaborate? I didn't quite understand the timestamp part. What do you mean by far from the indices of timestamp? Extracting the bundle (the zip file generated) gives set of files like I have shared in the screenshots. In the files with file name that ends with _release (lets take for example archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_focal_release), has the checksums.

I know that I can generate checksums using md5sum commands. Which files should I generate cheksums for? for example, for the file above, first line is the checksum for partner/binary-amd64/Packages. Does this correspond to the file archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_focal_binary-amd64_Packages? This particular file shows up as archive in my ubuntu machine.

I'm using google colab as my 'online linux machine', as my actual online machine that I have access to, is an windows machine that I do not have admin privilege for. I don't know if there is something in between that could do something weird, especially with filenames. I have heard that google drive might mess up with file names. The checksums that you generate, will have to be validated against the indices, for example here. Just choose the right Ubuntu release. But please ensure that your downloads aren't far from the indices with the generated timestamp.

can you elaborate? I didn't quite understand the timestamp part. What do you mean by far from the indices of timestamp? Extracting the bundle (the zip file generated) gives set of files like I have shared in the screenshots. In the files with file name that ends with _release (lets take for example archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_focal_release), has the checksums.

But interestingly, the checksum obtained (all three i.e md5sum, sha1 ,sha256) does match with that of archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_focal_binary-amd64_Packages.xz given in releases file and such a file does not exist in the directory. In fact there are no .xz files in directory. Is there a chance something would have stripped the extensions in between?

To sum up, I think this is an issue of corrupt downloads. To be fully sure, I'd still insist that you run the checksums all through the downloaded files, and then tally against the Release file I explained.

Just to give context, since I suspect that it could be a possible point of problem. I'm using google colab as my 'online linux machine', as my actual online machine that I have access to, is an windows machine that I do not have admin privilege for. I don't know what google colab is but I would highly doubt that causing the problem. My suspicion is that you either have malfunctioning hardware or a super flaky network.

Google Colab stands for Google Colabarotary (https://colab.research.google.com/). It gives you a cloud ipython interface (jupyter notebooks) to run codes in. Since it is an ipython terminal, I can run commands in terminal by adding '!' at the beginning. Giving this info just in case you want to test an identical scenario. I am using Colab as my online linux machine.
