Tableau Editor is a standalone application for editing the metadata of Tableau workbooks. Imagine building multiple tableau workbooks and deploying it across multiple environments in your project infrastructure. Tableau Editor makes it easy for you to simply enter the parameters and on a single click will process your files with the required configurations.
- Java Development Kit(JDK)/Java Runtime Environment(JRE) version 1.8.0 or above
- Operating System: Windows, Linux, Mac OS
To use Tableau Editor, follow the below steps:
- Download Tableau Editor Latest release.
Double click
on the JAR file downloaded.- Click on BROWSE button to select a directory with TWBX files.
- Verify your selection using the Processing File List window.
- Final Click on SELECT PROCESSING button to start.
- Monitor the progress using the PROGRESS LOG window.
In case the Tableau Editor is not getting started, follow the below quick steps
- Locate JDK version 1.8.0 in your system
- Open Terminal or Command Line
- Execute the below command
$ cd <PATH TO JDK 1.8.x>/bin
.../bin $ java.exe -jar <PATH TO TABLEAU EDITOR>/TableauEditor-<version number>.jar
Note: $ indicates the prompt and contents inside the <> are logical and is different with systems in consideration.
If you find errors in the command line, raise an issue in github; as documented below.
As of the latest release of v1.0.0 Beta, Tableau Editor is only for TWBX workbooks. TWBX workbooks are Tableau workbooks having data extracts included along with the workbook file.
