Recent Activities

20220817 - RootsWallet beta development has been going well. We have wrapped up development of the initial backup and restore feature. It produces a zip file that the user can export to Google Drive and other favorite cloud storage like IPFS. We are also wrapping our video series for the RootsID SSI Report, RootsWallet was featured https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezInITzb9p4.

20220718 - RootsWallet beta development is underway. We have begun to integrate the Aries Framework Javascript project in order to leverage their superior design and SSI features. That includes the framework for exporting/importing the wallet storage. We have included the libs and was able to run a simple AFJ unit test that does a migration that does an export/backup and then alters the storage. Our next steps will be to adapt the RootsWallet storage objects to the interfaces expected in AFJ so that we can continue to adopt all of these excellent open source features.

20220622 - RootsWallet Alpha version 1 is ready and much alpha testing has commenced! We'll be tagging the release in the next day or so and our alpha testers on Android will be able to use the alpha release from the Google Play Store (we are being verified). Beta version development has already begun and Rodolfo has already begun testing ping messages for OOB and mediator communications. Lance is working with Aries Bifold to learn from their backup/recovery mechanism so that RootsWallet follows the best practices. WAL-CLI and WAL-LIB are going through many changes to improve the data model, interfaces, and API... look for the 2.0.0 release coming soon!

20220523 - Our Catalyst Fund 7 development is complete! We implemented WAY more than we promised and we are so excited for the future as 6 of the 9 proposals we submitted in Catalyst Fund 8 got funded. We have already begun that fund 8 work and can't wait to begin engaging with the community as the use/download WAL-CLI, RootsWallet, and the rest of our ecosystem projects.

20220419 - Congrats to all the RootsID devs who received great feedback from the Catalyst Community Advisors who rated ALL of our proposals in the top 90%!!!

20220419 - The team has been working on several parts of RootsWallet and are approaching a significant integration step that will begin to bring the alpha release together.

  • Butch is working on the paged view of RootsWallet which will give users a traditional simple view into their Credentials.
  • Esteban has continued to advance the API that we use (see wal-lib in our repos) providing a consistent api/model as well as several new features including the URL for Prism/Cardano blockchain operations.
  • Rodo has brought significant advancements in DIDComm v2 and Peer-Did communication, that will allow us to do our first inter-wallet comms.
  • Lance has been advancing the controllers/orchestration for the UI in preparation for integrating with Butch's pages, as well as advancing the RootsChat view that aids in demonstration scenarios.

20220323 - The team has transitioned from Fund 8 proposal writing (see link above) to writing code for our Fund 7 proposal (see link above).

  • Currently Butch is working in the RootsWallet repo on front-end enhancements.
  • Esteban has finished his first release of WAL-CLI which will be a core part of our wallet ecosystem, providing institution organization-base wallet. Many parts of this functionality will be used in RootsWallet.
  • Rodo has started work on the DIDComm communication part of RootsWallet. He and I are participating in the DIDComm User Group to produce 'Hello World' documentation that will be a strong guide for what he is implementing.
  • Lance (me) has been producing a RootsChat prototype in order to explore our ideas around the social user interface RootsWallet will use. This work will tie into the storage prototyping that Lance has worked on. It will also help us integrate many of the WAL-CLI functionality that is needed for RootsWallet.

20220213 - Our RootsWallet proposal (Open Source Credential Wallet) has been awarded Catalyst funding!

20220105 - Our Github goes live today under the Apache 2.0 license.

20211215 - The rootsWallet team met with our Atala Prism Pioneer Program mentors today. It was a great conversation with some important ideas about how to remain agile, simple, fast in the development of our wallet and what to focus on for our MVP implementation. We continue to review front-end tech like KMM, ReactNative, and more. And we are learning a ton from the work done by the Indy/Aires folks. We discussed interoperability and agreed that we will design towards it but will focus on it in future iterations beyond Fund 7.

20211210 - The rootsWallet development team met today to kickoff our post-catalyst-fund7-proposal-building activities. We have an important meeting next Wednesday. We're closer than ever to coding and couldn't be happier :)
