Improving the content and format of the Scientific Python Lectures

Format: Currently, the document compiled with Sphinx and presented as a static webpage. I worked on improving the content last year, and I found this format challenging to work with. To make the document more developer- and user-friendly, I'd like to:

  • allow editing the document as a notebook
  • make the document interactive (e.g. executable in browser)
  • (preferably) use Markdown instead of reST

I'm not sure what system meets these needs, but if someone can help me get things started and point me in the right direction, I can do a lot of grunt work. Thoughts?

Content: Last year, I took a pass through the SciPy sections and updated what I can. This year, I'll work on improving other sections I know something about and invite contributions about the topics I'm unfamiliar with. What topics can you contribute to?

I would split this up into two issues, one for infra and one for content.
