Failed to Launch, Node.js not found

Been trying for hours, but on startup with plugin installed i always get:
LogRemoteControlWebInterface: Error: [Failure] Failed to Launch the Remote Control Web Interface - Couldn't find node.js installed..., Please install latest nodejs from https://nodejs.org/en/download/

on mac os x 12.2, M1

same project runs well on Windows with node 16.14.0

What i tried:

• Adding node.js to the path (it already was, added subpaths just to be sure)
• downgrading from 16.14.0 to 14.14.0 with nvm (since the documentation claims 14.15.5 is highest supported

Also don't see the issue documented anywhere so far.
Any ideas?
