About Me

Hello! I'm BillyZ, originally from the charming town of Chautauqua in Western New York.

My journey into software engineering began at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where I absorbed invaluable knowledge and gained hands-on experience. I started my career at Xerox, but quickly discovered my true passion lay in geospatial software engineering. While working on various contracts, one project in particular, a joint initiative by NASA and USAID called SERVIR, gradually captured all my attention and efforts. This led me to relocate to Huntsville, Alabama, where the SERVIR Science Coordination Office is based. Here, I develop open-source software used by developing nations to empower decision-makers tackling critical challenges in food security, water resources, weather and climate, land use, and disaster management.

I take pride in my work, as it transforms satellite data into actionable insights for communities around the globe, from bustling cities to remote villages. I often say I’m “saving the world one line of code at a time.”
