Proposal Guidelines for Volumes within Syriaca.org Publications

Syriaca.org is pleased to invite proposals from scholars for new volumes within Syriaca.org's reference publications:
- SPEAR: Syriac Persons Events and Relations
- The New Handbook of Syriac Literature (NHSL)
- The Syriac Biographical Dictionary (SBD)
- The Syriac Gazetteer
Individual volumes should be thematically organized and conform to the editorial standards of the parent reference publications.
Proposals should follow the guidelines below and be submitted electronically to the director, Prof. Daniel L. Schwartz (daniel.schwartz{}tamu.edu). Scholars interested in preparing a proposal are encouraged to contact the director in advance of submission.
Guidelines for New Volumes:
- New volumes should significantly add to the content or coverage of the reference publications of which they would be a part.
- New volumes should cohere to or enhance the intellectual model of the reference publications of which they would be a part.
- New volumes should utilize or enhance the digital structures of the reference publications of which they would be a part.
- All publications must conform to the open access publication model of Syriaca.org, including use of the Creative Commons Attribution License.
- No content of Syriaca.org may engage in political or sectarian advocacy.
- Proposals will be reviewed and approved by the Syriaca.org Editorial Board.
Proposals should be structured in the following order:
- Brief cover letter indicating:
- List of editors or contributors for the volume with contact information.
- Indication of the Syriaca.org reference publication to which the proposed volume would belong and any comment on how the volume might differ from or enhance this reference publication.
- Intellectual property statement indicating the originality of the content and any permissions that need to be obtained.
- Schedule for work on the volume including anticipated completion date.
- Title and brief abstract of the proposed volume (200 words max.)
- C.V.(s) of the proposed volume editors and contributors, including any relevant digital skills (limit 3 pages each).
