Currently the only way to support gpib is to actually compile on-module, and install it. Even if the 'make' stage is performed to external storage, booting an image without gcc and attempting to run 'make install' fails because it still requires gcc for this step. If this was compiled as part of a recipe instead, it would not be an issue, as the yocto-managed toolchain would handle it, and not be required in the final image.
