Catchups

Once every few weeks, Niteans have Catchup meetings (also called One on Ones) with a senior team member in order to catch up. This feedback is important as everyone works remotely so we have less contact and less of an idea of what's going on with individuals. We want to know how we can help everyone work and feel better in the company. It's also an opportunity to discuss your career at Niteo.

This is your opportunity to discuss anything you want so they should be treated as more of a beer in a coffee shop than an interview-style meeting.

Catchups and Career Path notes are stored in your private Niteo Career repository.

Schedule

Meetings will be scheduled at a suitable time and day every two weeks. They can be on Slack huddle, by phone or in person. They are usually 30 minutes in length but can take longer if needed.

They should not be cancelled unless unavoidable, such as an emergency.

Your meeting!

These meetings are primarily for you so feel free to set an agenda and lead the meeting. You can let us know about the progress of work in the last week, give private feedback about the work, working conditions, company, projects, ideas or anything else on your mind.

Discussion Points

Use these questions as a guide for things to discuss and not as a questionnaire because a Catchup is not a "question and answer" meeting.

Weekly

  • What's on your mind?
  • How has the previous week of work been for you? Are there any blockers we can discuss or remove?
  • Which were your big wins/highlights since we last talked?
  • Do you feel there is enough feedback about your work?
  • How can I help you ...? (be more productive/happier at work/enjoy work more/etc.)
  • Are there any meetings or discussions you feel you should be a part of that you're not? Are you included in any you don't want to be a part of?
  • Do you have any half-baked ideas for projects, the company or anything else?

Habits

  • What are the biggest time wasters for you?
  • What is an ideal, productive day at work for you? Walk me through the day.
  • Do you feel challenged at work? Are you learning new things?
  • How do you feel about your workload? (high, low, or just right)
  • Are you happy working here?
  • Do you feel like you’re on the same page with your team? How often do you think you need meetings to ensure you stay that way?
  • What’s a recent situation you wish you handled differently? What would you change?

Career

  • In terms of goals for the future, what direction do you want to develop your skills?
  • Do you feel we are fairly compensating everyone, including you?
  • Who in the company would you like to learn from? What do you want to learn?
  • Is there an aspect of your job you would like more help or coaching?
  • What additional training or education would you like?

Company

  • What are your favorite parts about our culture?
  • What is the company, as a whole, doing right? Is there anything we should be doing and are not? What is the #1 problem at our company and why?
  • What's not fun about working here? What do you enjoy most about working here?
  • Are we clearly explaining how the company is doing right now and where we want to go?
  • Do you think our company is treating everyone fairly?
  • Imagine you are leaving Niteo tomorrow. What would you tell us we are doing wrong?

Team

  • Is everyone pulling their weight on the team?
  • Who would you like to work more often with? Why?
  • Who is kicking ass on the team? What have they done?
  • Who on the team do you have the most difficulty working with? Why?
  • What do you like most about working on our team?
  • What characteristics make someone a good fit for our team? How would you look for those characteristics in an interview?
  • Are you uncomfortable giving any of your peers constructive criticism? If so, why?

Chat

  • What did you do for fun in the past that you haven’t had as much time for lately?
  • How do you feel your work/life balance is right now?
  • What do you like to do in your free time? What are your hobbies?

Senior's Notes

  • Review the Nitean Happiness. Are they happy? If not, how can you address it?
  • What work have they done recently that you liked? Praise them specifically on what you want to see more of.
  • What aspect of their work are they an unsung hero for doing? Recognize their efforts you might be taking for granted.
  • How could they improve some of their recent work? Take 5-10 minutes to find some constructive feedback to give.
  • How could they improve how they work with you, the team, or others in the company? Talk about recent examples and steps they can take.
  • Why does their work matter? Motivate them by helping them understand their work's valued purpose.
