Alt+` and Alt+W triggering menu briefly, how do disable it?

I'm using a hardware keyboard, and I need Alt+` in particular to use for inputting grave-accented characters, but in termux this triggers this popup menu that shows up for a flash and then disappears, rather than passing the input to the terminal. This also happens for Alt+W.

I've added disable-hardware-keyboard-shortcuts = true to my termux.properties file but that hasn't changed the behavior.
