Like some kind of FM synth that isn't tied to a specific chip? I don't think that exists or if it does, it's entirely software driven

Or maybe the other way ; generic pcm player go FM. This was real as good ol' ESS ES1889 thingy could do this ( ive messed up the model name )

I was also about to suggest Generic wavetable, and how you could choose the limit of the size of the wave like how you can with PCM audio quality.
