Definition

A repository which contains a machine-readable listing of approved governed parties deemed compliant by a governing authority over its attributable criteria of its governance framework.

Purpose

A trust registry is critical in automating non-transitive trust within the boundaries of a governance community and transitive trust beyond it.

Examples

  • The trust store embedded in Internet browser clients that contain previously approved Root Certificate Authorities is considered a trust registry. It allows for automatic recognition by a browser in trust chain discovery processes.
