Activity Column Descriptive Factor Labels

The data imported from activity files represented in the column named activity was converted to factor form with labels as follow:

  1.        WALKING
    
  2. WALKING_UPSTAIRS
  3. WALKING_DOWNSTAIRS
  4.        SITTING
    
  5.       STANDING
    
  6.         LAYING 
    

Descriptive Column Names for Features

Column names were amended to be more descripte according to the following scheme:

  • "Mag" was expanded to "Magnitude"
  • "t" (at start of name) was expanded to "time"
  • "f" (at start of name) was expanded to "frequency"
  • "Acc" was expanded to "Accelerometer"
  • "Gyro" was expanded to "Gyroscope"
  • "BodyBody" was simplified to "Body"

Replacing Symbols in Column Names

"(" and ")" were removed "-" was replaced with "_"

For ease of parsing the data files, since "(", ")" and "-" have different uses in R.

Activity and Subject Columns

In addition to the feature named columns as described in the mapping below (resulting from the above three steps) there are two additional columns:

  1. activities (with activities data)
  2. subject (with subject data)
