The C api is slower than the normal uWebSockets or uSockets. Why?

I've been trying out the C api and I can't for the life of me get it to go faster than 8000 req/s. This is massively different when compared to the uWebSockets HelloWorld example or just uSockets. I don't expect it to change since it's just an experiment, I was just wondering why. The reason I'm asking is because the shim looks really simple to me and doesn't seem like it would have much if any effect on perf.
