For the course Human-Centered-Design the intention is to design an application specifically made for one person. This is called an exclusive design. In order to be able to make a design, it is important to know who this person really is, what is currently hindering him or her and what he or she finds important and fun in the design. In other words: it is important to be able to communicate well with the user in order to meet his or her needs. In addition, it is important to test the design a number of times in order to be able to see in action what works and what does not work.

Client

The client for this assignment is Marijn Meijles. As described in the explanation of the lecture: Marijn is probably the best developer you will ever meet. A brilliant nerd. He has been participating in this assignment with great pleasure for years. Marijn has a motor disorder. So he uses his computer differently than we do. He has a lot of trouble with fine motor skills. He uses his keyboard to navigate, and in the Accessibility settings of his Mac he has Sticky Keys turned on.

But now the question is of course... Who is Marijn really? What does he think is important in the design and what hinders him in current applications?

Case

Marijn actually has two cases for which he would like an exclusive design. The choice was made for case date picker. The description of this case is:

Marijn travels a lot by train, and he must indicate in advance which train he wants to take so that someone is there to help him with his wheelchair. Date pickers are generally fiddly, and not designed for someone who relies on their keyboard?

Deliverable

For Marijn I will deliver a website where he can plan his train journey without too much effort. I will use the Exclusive Design Principles so that this website is made specifically with and for him.
