About

So Marijn works as a technical chief architect in Amsterdam and takes care of the metadata for almost all music in the world is correct. As described in the case, Marijn is a real nerd: He is a coder with 30 years of experience, has a heavy music taste (metal) and prefers to always see dark mode screens. He also has a lot of humor and finds it great to be able to 'break' applications. Think of entering the wrong dates or traveling from, for example, Amsterdam CS station to Amsterdam CS station.

The only point with Marijn: He has a motor disorder. This is a congenital disability as he said himself. Because of this he uses the internet differently than others: He only has one arm that he can use with which he uses both his trackpad and his keyboard. For this reason, he has Sticky Keys enabled in the accessibility settings on his keyboard and uses the VI (M) shortcuts.

In his setup at home, he has three screens that are linked to his Macbook. The browser he always uses is Chrome. He thinks it is important that he has to do as little as possible on a site. This is partly due to his disability.

What does Marijn want?

As already described in the case description, Marijn travels a lot by train. When he is going to travel, he must indicate in advance which train he is taking so that an NS employee can help him with this. In addition, Marijn wants to be able to plan a trip as quickly as possible (and as late as possible), without having to waste a lot of time due to his disorder in entering the stations, dates and times.

In the current situation, when he uses the NS travel planner, the chance of an error due to his disability is very high. First he has to enter the station of departure, then the station of arrival, then the correct date, then the correct time and finally the confirmation of the journey he wants. Now this doesn't sound like much work: But for someone with a motor disorder like Marijn, this can easily take a few minutes (without counting the errors when he accidentally presses the wrong key).

So what Marijn wants is a date picker where he can plan his journey between stations more easily.

Why would he use my application?

Marijn wants to be able to book his trip as quickly as possible, without having to waste a lot of time due to his disorder in entering the stations, dates and times. For this reason, my application will be developed especially for him, an Exclusive Design. Navigating through the application and planning a trip will be easier for Marijn: He will no longer need to spend an unnecessary amount of time entering a form, but will be able to plan his trip more easily. In addition, the application contains the Exclusive Design Principles, making it not only pleasant for Marijn, but also fun to use the application!
