Along with senior Army and intelligence agency officials, Anand Jain, the additional director general of police (Jammu), paid a visit to the scene of the ambush in the Surankote area. The Army also used a helicopter for surveillance flights.
Five IAF servicemen were hurt in the incident, which happened on Saturday night close to Shahsitar; one of them later passed away from his wounds at a military hospital.
The officials said that in order to neutralize the terrorists, who are thought to have fled to a nearby forest after the attack, a well-coordinated joint operation by the Army and the police was being carried out in a number of regions, including Shahsitar, Gursai, Sanai, and Sheendara Top.

<p>To maximize deaths, the terrorists reportedly used steel bullets and an M4 carbine manufactured in the United States in addition to AK assault rifles.
Corporal Vikky Pahade was the soldier who died, and the IAF sent their condolences to his family. "All members of the Indian Air Force, along with the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari, salute the courageous Corporal Vikky Pahade, who gave his life in the Poonch region for the country. We send the deceased family our sincere sympathies. The IAF wrote on 'X', "We are steadfastly by your side in this hour of loss.

<p>The officials said that units from the Army's Para Commandos were also involved in the search effort.
There hasn't been "contact" with the terrorists yet. The area, which is scheduled to cast votes in the sixth round of the Lok Sabha election on May 25, has seen an increase in vehicle checks, according to the officials. Poonch is included in the parliamentary constituency of Anantnag-Rajouri. Following a period of tranquility between 2003 to 2021, the border district of Poonch, along with the adjoining Rajouri, has had significant terrorist strikes throughout the past two years.
