The app is running and the TV appears in the list of devices, but when I try to connect, it just doesn't, everything I get is a loading icon and a cannot connect to device error. Do I need to make the TV have a static ip or something? I only installed the app.

If you're trying to use an Apple device as the sender.. it won't work because Apple uses AirPlay protocol v2.. has done for many years now, and this receiver uses a home-grown HTTP protocol that's backward compatible with AirPlay v1.

There are still many older 3rd-party senders that can support AirPlay v1.. the README includes a partial list (of my favorites).

thanks @heinnovator
you're all about the shortcuts :)
personally, I don't have any Apple devices to test this on.. but it looks very useful to others who do.
