<h4>Project Overview</h4>
</div>
<ul>
<li>Many models of voting system dynamics make unrealistic assumptions (e.g. everyone will vote)</li>
<li>Collect examples of poor assumptions and demonstrate what discrepencies arise when they are invalid.</li>
<li>This will likely involve simulations and intermediate statistical methods as removing assumptions may complicate the problem.</li>
<li>Produce visualisations to see the impact of invalid model assumptions.</li>
<li>Tie analysis results back to the real world.</li>
</ul>

<h4>Role Responsibilities</h4>
</div>
<p><i>Note, if you have skills meeting two role requirements, you can apply for both, resulting in a team of two.</i></p>
<b>Political Scientist</b>
<ul>
<li>Research and report on common voting systems.</li>
<li>Support the production of voting system models and simulations.</li>
<li>Link analysis results to real world voting systems and politics (preferably with a focus on the UK).</li>
<li>Contribute to relevant sections of the final write-up.</li>
</ul>
<b>Statistician</b>
<ul>
<li>Research existing voting system models and evaluate the validity of their assumptions.</li>
<li>Produce alternative models and solve analytically where possible.</li>
<li>When simulation is required, support the programmer in devoloping solutions.</li>
<li>Contribute to relevant sections of the final write-up.</li>
</ul>
<b>Programmer</b>
<ul>
<li>Build simulations of complex voting systems (preferably in Python).</li>
<li>(Preferably) Optimise simulations using JIT compilation and parallelisation.</li>
<li>Create visualisations to compare model outcomes with and without assumptions.</li>
<li>Contribute to relevant sections of the final write-up.</li>
</ul>

<h4>Candidate Attributes</h4>
</div>
<ul>
<li>A passion for the project and, preferably, interdisiplinary data science in general.</li>
<li>Self-starting attitude with willingness to research and problem-solve independently.</li>
<li>Ability to work well in a team and clearly communicate your ideas.</li>
<li>Strong time-management and organisational skills.</li>
<li>Expertise in data science or your domain is <b>not</b> required as this is a guided project.</li>
